From 1 September 2023 until 5 October 2023 the exhibition ‘The Heavens Opened. El Greco in Rome’ will be open to the public. The exhibition of works of El Greco (Candia 1541 – Toledo 1614) will be held in the church of Sant’Agnese in Agone in Rome.

 

Visitors to the church in Piazza Navona will be able to view three masterpieces by the artist who is an icon of the Spanish Renaissance:  The Holy Family with St Anne (Toledo, Hospital de Tavera), The Baptism of Christ (Toledo, Hospital de Tavera) and Christ Carrying the Cross (El Bonillo, Museo Paroquial).

 

The exhibition is open every day from 9am until 9pm and there is free admission.

 

The initiative forms part of the program ‘The Jubilee is Culture’ - a rich series of cultural events in preparation for the Jubilee of 2025. ‘The Heavens Opened. El Greco in Rome’ is one of the first great artistic events which will begin a ‘pilgrimage’ of beauty towards the Jubilee of 2025
