The Story of the Gori Women’s Choir

The Gori Women’s Choir was founded in 1970 by Sh. Mosidze and Alexander Kacharava, marking the beginning of one of Georgia’s most distinguished and enduring vocal ensembles.
For more than half a century, the choir has been a beacon of artistic excellence, winning numerous international awards and captivating audiences with its refined sound and emotional depth.

Since 2013, the ensemble has been guided by its visionary conductor, Teona Tsiramua, under whose leadership the choir has reached new artistic heights. Her direction has brought a fresh spirit of creativity, expanding the choir’s repertoire and international recognition.

Among the ensemble’s many remarkable achievements, a particularly notable milestone is the collaboration with the Georgian-born British artist Katie Melua. Together, they recorded the album “In Winter” in 2016, which entered the Top 10 of the UK charts and was praised for its purity, warmth, and haunting beauty.
Following this success, the choir embarked on two extensive European tours in 2016 and 2018, performing nearly 70 concerts across the continent and winning the hearts of audiences from city to city.

While classical music remains at the core of its identity, the Gori Women’s Choir is also known for its openness to artistic exploration. Over the years, the ensemble has embraced collaborations across a wide range of genres — from jazz and electronic music to urban and folk traditions — showcasing the choir’s versatility and its unique ability to blend diverse musical worlds with elegance and soul.

In 2022, three works from the choir’s repertoire were chosen to be part of the “Lunar Codex” time capsule — a visionary project supported by NASA and Astrobotic. These pieces, preserved among the cultural treasures of humankind destined for the Moon, symbolize the timeless beauty and enduring spirit of Georgian choral art.
