The El Greco Exhibition opens: for the first time the masterpieces of the Spanish painter will be exhibited in Rome

El Greco's masterpieces have arrived in Rome. From 1 September to 5 October 2023, in the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone, in Piazza Navona, visitors will be able to admire the works of one of the greatest artists of the Spanish Renaissance, many on display for the first time outside his home country.

“The skies are open. El Greco in Rome” is the title of the exhibition of the art of Domínikos Theotokópoulos, known to the world as El Greco. Among the works on display are some of the artist's greatest masterpieces: Christ in prayer, The Holy Family with Saint Anne, The Baptism of Christ, and Christ embracing the Cross.

 

The initiative is part of the cultural program which is packed full of events in preparation for the 2025 Jubilee, organized by the Section for Fundamental Issues of Evangelization in the World of the Dicastery for Evangelization. “The Open Skies. El Greco in Rome" is the magnificent exhibition which, in a way, launches the pilgrimage of beauty and art towards the upcoming Holy Year

 

From Friday 14 September 2023 you can visit the exhibition for free in Sant'Agnese in Agone (Piazza Navona), every day from 9am to 9pm.
