Church of Santa Maria Addolorata

The Church of Santa Maria Addolorata, located in Piazza Buenos Aires, was built between 1910 and 1930 thanks to the work of Father José León Gallardo, who laid the first stone. It is an example of neo-Romanesque architecture, inspired by early Christian styles, with a significant use of semicircular arches and decorative mosaics. The church was recognized in 1919 as the National Church of Argentina, emphasizing its connection with that community.

Over the years, it has housed numerous works of art honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary, including a mosaic of the Pietà and decorations in the chapel of Our Lady of Mercy. Today, it is an important spiritual and cultural center for the Argentine community in Rome.
