Jubilee 2025, Pope Francis: “It will be an opportunity to solemnly renew our faith in Jesus Christ”

29 January 2024

Reflecting on the word ‘faith’, the Holy Father addressed the participants in the Plenary Meeting of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, on Friday 26 January in the following words: “I would like to recall two events: the 10th anniversary, recently marked, of the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii gaudium and the now imminent Jubilee Year, in which we will renew our faith in Jesus Christ, true God and true man, the hope of history and of the world."

The Pope continued: “What is essential, what is most beautiful, most attractive and at the same time most necessary for us is faith in Christ Jesus. All of us together, God willing, will solemnly renew that faith during the next Jubilee and each of us is called to proclaim it to every man and woman on earth. This is the fundamental task of the Church, which I gave voice to in Evangelii gaudium."

The proclamation of the Gospel is increasingly necessary in a time when, as Benedict XVI noted, across large areas of the Earth faith "no longer constitutes an obvious prerequisite for common life, indeed it is often even denied, derided, marginalized and ridiculed" (Apostolic Letter in the form of Motu proprio Porta fidei, 2).

This is the time, therefore, "to reflect again and with greater passion on themes such as the announcement and communication of the faith in today's world, especially to the younger generations, the missionary conversion of ecclesial structures and pastoral workers, the new urban cultures with their challenges but also their unprecedented questions about the meaning of life. Finally and above all, the centrality of the kerygma in the life and mission of the Church", concluded the Pope.
