04 November 2024

There was huge public acclaim following the third of the "Harmonies of Hope” Jubilee concerts which is part of the "Jubilee is Culture" program. The concert took place on Sunday 3 November at the Auditorium Conciliazione in Rome. The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia performed the Fifth Symphony by Dmitri Šostakovič, under the direction of Maestro Jader Bignamini, on his debut with the orchestra.

The audience in the packed Auditorium witnessed a masterly performance by over 90 musicians at a completely free concert. The success of Shostakovich's Symphony followed that of Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 5 "From the New World", performed by the Kiev Virtuosi Symphony Orchestra in November last year, and that of Messiah by the German-born English composer Georg Friedrich Händel, performed by the Florentine Ensemble Musici del Gran Principe, conducted by the young Maestro Samuele Lastrucci, last April.

The cultural festival will continue with events throughout the Holy Year. On November 27, at the new Museo del Corso - Polo Museale, in the Palazzo Cipolla in Rome, Marc Chagall's "White Crucifixion" will be exhibited for the first time in Italy

And just before the opening of the Holy Door, on December 22, 2024, at 6pm in the Church of Sant’Ignazio di Loyola, the Choir of the Pontifical Sistine Chapel Choir will perform polyphonic compositions by Palestrina, Perosi, and Bartolucci.
