The body of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati will be venerated during the Youth Jubilee

26 July 2025

For the first time, the body of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati is being venerated in Rome. On the occasion of the 2025 Youth Jubilee, the relic of the young man from Turin, which has rested incorrupt in a side chapel of Turin Cathedral since 1990, came to the Italian capital on the evening of July 25th. It was welcomed by the community of Dominican friars of the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, a few steps from the Pantheon, where it will remain on display for veneration until August 4th.

The event, promoted by the Diocese of Rome’s Office for Youth Ministry, is an extraordinary pilgrimage, closely linked to the upcoming canonization of Blessed Pier Giorgio, which Pope Leo XIV will celebrate on September 7th alongside that of Blessed Carlo Acutis.

The official opening of the period of veneration took place on Saturday, July 26, with a Mass presided over by Cardinal Baldo Reina, the Pope’s Cardinal Vicar of Rome, who imparted a blessing to the many volunteers involved in organizing the Jubilee. During the relic's stay, the Dominican community has planned a rich program of meetings, catechesis, and multilingual conferences to raise awareness of Frassati, a "man of the Beatitudes" and a witness to faith, charity, and social justice in action.

On August 4, following an 11:00 am. Mass presided over by Archbishop Anthony Fisher of Sydney—who promoted the presence of Frassati's body at the 2008 World Youth Day in Sydney—the relic will return to Turin.
