“We are pilgrims of Hope” - The Amazonian Church visits the Dicastery for Evangelization

04 June 2024

As ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, a delegation from the “Conferencia Eclesial de la Amazonia” (CEAMA) and the “Red Eclesial Pan Amazónica” (REPAM), met on Monday 3 June with the Pro-Prefect of the First Section of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Archbishop Rino Fisichella. During the meeting, in the Dicastery offices, the vital yet demanding work of evangelization that the Church is carrying out in this area of South America was highlighted, ahead of the 2025 Jubilee.

The Synod on the Amazon, called by Pope Francis in 2019, was a key moment in promoting a unitary and communitarian path in a vast region like the Amazon, which is made up of nine countries, seven Episcopal Conferences and 105 ecclesiastical jurisdictions. It is an area of great cultural richness, which is laying solid foundations for the future every day.

During the meeting at the Dicastery, themes emerging from the pastoral proposals contained in the post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation "Querida Amazonia" and the various challenges they pose were discussed. Many of these issues have a global impact, involving not only communities in affected Latin American countries, but the whole world, particularly the challenge of safeguarding the earth, our common home.
