“Vatican II in the age of the Millennials”: on January 12th a conference will take place on how to talk to young people about the Council
A conference entitled "Vatican II in the age of the Millennials" will be held on Friday 12 January, from 3 pm, in the Paul VI Hall at the Pontifical Lateran University. The initiative has been organized by the Italian Primary Catholic Artistic-Workers Association, under the patronage of the Dicastery for Evangelization and the Vicariate of Rome.
The event, designed primarily for young professionals and university students, is one of the official events being held in preparation for the 2025 Jubilee Year, and focuses on the theme of the Second Vatican Council which the Holy Father asked to be explored in greater depth ahead of the next Holy Year. The speakers will base their reflections on an in-depth analysis of the four Vatican II Constitutions, answering the question: "Why is the Council that changed the history of the Church still relevant?"
The seminar will be introduced by the Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, and the initial historical reflection will be given by Filippo Forlani, Professor of Church History at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.
Talks will then be given by Beatrice Serra, Professor of Canon and Ecclesiastical Law at La Sapienza University, on the topic of “Dei Verbum and the conciliar roots of the right to privacy”, and by Father Maurizio Botta, Prefect of the Oratory of St Philip Neri, on “Gaudium et Spes: dignity, the person and work in a century of innovation". Elisabetta Gavasci Scala, Vice President of the MOlGE will speak on “Lumen Gentium: even lay people can be saints”, and finally Msgr. Andrea Lonardo, Director of the Office for University Pastoral Care of the Vicariate of Rome, will speak on "Sacrosantum Concilium and the other Constitutions: the new personalistic perspective".
At the end of the conference there will be a contribution from Niccolò Reale, director of the "Summa Cognitio" blog on the topic “Is the faith of millennials passed on through social media?” and a concluding speech by Monsignor Giuseppe Lorizio, Director of the Culture Office of the Vicariate of Rome.
Entrance is free and all are welcome.
