October 4-5 will see the Jubilees of the Missionary World and of Migrants

On Saturday October 4 and Sunday October 5, the Jubilee of the Missionary World and the Jubilee of Migrants will be held simultaneously in Rome. Both events are jointly organized by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Dicastery for Evangelization’s Section for First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches.

Jubilee of the Missionary World

The celebrations, which will involve pilgrims from approximately 100 countries, are specially aimed at lay and religious missionaries, pastoral workers on mission, fidei donum volunteers, and various organizations linked to the missionary world. Among the countries most represented are Italy, the United States, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, France, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, the Philippines, India, and Canada. Delegations will also be present from Zambia, Lesotho, China, Costa Rica, Madagascar, and Mauritius.

The Jubilee will begin on the morning of Saturday October 4th, with the Jubilee Audience held at 10 am by the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, in St. Peter's Square. All pilgrims arriving in Rome for the Jubilee are invited to attend this audience.

In the afternoon, from 2-5 pm participants will be able to make their the pilgrimage to the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica.

From 5-6:45 pm the International Missionary Meeting entitled "Mission ad gentes today: towards new horizons" will be held at the Pontifical Urbaniana University (Via Urbano VIII, 16). It is jointly organized by the Dicastery for Evangelization’s Section for First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches, and the Pontifical Mission Societies. After the meeting, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm, national groups are invited to celebrate Vigil Masses for the missions in various churches in the Vatican area: Santa Maria delle Fornaci (English); San Lorenzo in Piscibus (French); the Main Chapel of the Urban College (Spanish); and the Chapel of the International Center for Missionary Animation (Portuguese/German/Chinese). Mass will be held in Italian in the Casa "Dono di Maria" Chapel at Via del S. Uffizio, 9/a (7:30 pm) and in the church of Santa Maria in Traspontina (7 pm). At 9 pm, there will be a solemn international missionary Rosary in St. Peter's Square, to which all are invited.

On Sunday, October 5th, at 10:30 am, pilgrims are invited to the Mass presided over by Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter's Square. In the afternoon, from 3-7 pm, the "Festival of Peoples" will be held in the Gardens of Castel Sant'Angelo. This event, which is open to all, is entitled "Migrants and Missionaries of Hope Among the Peoples." His Eminence Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization’s Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches, and other senior representatives of the dicastery will be present.

Jubilee of Migrants

This special jubilee event will involve 10,000 pilgrims from approximately 95 countries and will be dedicated to all migrants, with participants arriving in significant numbers from Italy, the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, the Philippines, Germany, Portugal, India, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, El Salvador, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Albania, Romania, Madagascar, Eritrea, Togo, Cape Verde, and Mauritius.

This Jubilee will also begin on the morning of Saturday October 4th, with Pope Leo’s Jubilee Audience in St. Peter's Square, and will continue in the afternoon, between 2-5 pm., with the pilgrimage to the Holy Door in St. Peter's Basilica.

On Sunday, October 5, at 10:30 am the pilgrims will attend Mass presided over by Pope Leo in St. Peter's Square, and the Jubilee will conclude in the afternoon with the "Festival of Peoples" on the theme "Migrants and Missionaries of Hope Among the Peoples," organized by a group of various Catholic organizations working with and for migrants, refugees, and the missionary world. The event is promoted by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Dicastery for Evangelization’s Section for First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches.

It will be an afternoon of music, testimonies, and performances featuring migrants, missionaries, and artists from all round the world, including, for example, the Latino Indian community of Rome, a Filipino youth group, the Sorirang from Korea, the International Migrants School of Rome, and the PeruFolk cultural association. This celebration brings together the reality of migration and the missionary world, as an expression of a welcoming and caring Church. Admission to the event, which will take place from 3-7 pm in the Gardens of Castel Sant'Angelo, is free and open to all. Gates open at 2.30 for the opening performances. The event will be hosted by presenters from Italy, Afghanistan and India. His Eminence Cardinal Fabio Baggio, C.S., Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, and senior officials of the Dicastery for Evangelization’s Section for First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches, will be present at the event.
