Apostolic Vicariate of Alexandria in Egypt marks opening of the Year of Prayer
Last February, the celebration of the Holy Mass for the opening of the Year of Prayer 2024 was held in Cairo, Egypt, presided over by Bishop Claudio Lurati, Vicar Apostolic of Alexandria in Egypt.
To mark the occasion, almost 200 young people of many nationalities (Egyptians, French, Sudanese, Italians, Eritreans, Yemenis) gathered in the Patronato in Cairo, together with consecrated men, priests and nuns from the dioceses of Cairo and Alexandria.
The Bishop considered it important that young people listen to the explanation of the motto of the Jubilee Year - peregrinantes in spem - and understand and focus on the spiritual path that the Church is following, so that “they can live with the Church and in the Church, to be effective witnesses, aware of the spiritual good all around them."
After the homily, there was a moment for individual testimonies, such as that of Margaret, a young woman who spoke about her experience of illness and recovery and how she used this trial to understand and put into practice the will of the Father, through prayer.
